David Lamelas and Hildegarde Duane

The decades-long collaboration of Lamelas and Duane began in the late 1970’s when there was flowering of video art led by the Long Beach Museum of Art and local artists. Lamelas & Duane over the years of their collaboration have taken many difference scenerios including: Arabs & Jews, the Contras, Marcos & Imelda, The Dictator homeless (long before Saddam), the NRA and the gas crisis.

The Dictator ,1978, the first of these collaborative videos, depicts a Barbara Walters type character, played by Duane, interviewing the title character who was loosely based on Peron and Castro, played by Lamalas. Themes in these videos include the battle of the sexes, transformative power of the media, ironic twists of fate and an uncanny ability to predict the future. Styles have ranged from TV interview to documentary, film noir, short story and installation.

Lamela’s individual work explores the nature and influence of media. Duane’s works as a multi-media storyteller. These videos of Lamelas and Duane are an examination of power and glamour via social satire. Lamelas & Duane’s work has been exhibited at MOMA New York, the Whitney Museum, MOCA, Hartford Atheneum, ICA Boston, Long Beach Museum of Art, Centre Pompidou Paris, Museo Tamayo Mexico City and various other museums and galleries worldwide.

OUT NOW!!!

EMPTY RESTAURANT

with THOMAS JEPPE

EMPTY RESTAURANT is a Fan-zine project (Xerox style/self-distribution).
The project is a personal collaboration between a different artist and me each issue.
The idea is to create a monographic Fan-zine where I will ask to an artist to just design an original cover, but inside the publication will be filled with quotes and references that the artist finds influential for his own research. The design of the fanzine will be the result of a binary collaboration between the artists and me.

EMPTY RESTAURANT

Issue N#1

THOMAS JEPPE

Thomas Jeppe is an artist and publisher working in Melbourne, Australia.

I met Thomas in a boat. That night the boat was particularly dangling especially for a summer night without wind. Then I kept meeting Thomas every party. He told me a bit about his hand-made tattoos. PRONTO. COCO NUT. He gave me his book SERIOUS ISSUE. He has a lot of things to do with books.

Send "Crystalised" Ringtone to your Cell

You've applied the pressure
To have me crystalized
And you've got the faith
That I could bring paradise

I'll forgive and forget
Before I'm paralyzed
Do I have to keep up the pace
To keep you satisfied

Things have gotten closer to the sun
And I've done things in small doses
So don't think that I'm pushing you away
When you're the one that I've kept closest

(Ahh ahh ahh) (x4)

You don't move slow
Taking steps in my directions
The sound resounds, echo
Does it lesson your affection
[ The Xx Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
No

You say I'm foolish
For pushing this aside
But burn down our home
I won't leave alive

Glaciers have melted to the sea
I wish the tide would take me over
I've been down on my knees
And you just keep on getting closer

(Ahh ahh ahh) (x4)

Glaciers have melted to the sea (Things have gotten closer to the sun)
I wish the tide would take me over (And I've done things in small doses)
I've been down onto my knees (So don't think that I'm pushing you away)
And you just keep on getting closer (When you're the one that I've kept closest)

Go slow (5x)

Polar

The place is somewhere.
The time is vintage and it is not settled in some kinda of cottage, I will say more about in a latty. There is a song playing ‘I wish I was a polar bear…I wish a polar bear…I wish ….’
The floor is orange and read, big spots, very smooth and elegant batts. They are ajax to a crystal table, they are charping for something, some dish. It’s not possibile to see the efac, but there are oglefakes on. Semi-dark oglefakes reading the capital letters on the glossies on the table mixed with handbag, just throwned in to a bijou messy.
A hand takes the beige parlare pipe. He moves his riah, he stays palliass, high lallies in to soft kaffies. Outside the window some high parlare, someone minces. The lilly’s light. Just a lill out of the window. The chicken vadas it, his plate runs away and he enters.
It’s going to be a fabuolosa!
